Geneaology Resources Available at WCPL
Have you started your family genealogy and aren’t sure where to go for information? Family research can be a daunting task, but well worth the effort. Here at the Warsaw Community Public Library, we have lots of books on family histories, newspaper archives, and also www.ancestry.com for your free use.
One of the sections in our Indiana Room has on its shelves donated family tree records from the area families. Just to mention a few, Aborn, Bibler, Boggs, Cauffman, Eberly, Ferverda, McKrill, Paxtons, Swicks, Wiltrout and many, many more.
Maybe your interest (like mine) lies in our local cemeteries. The library has the full collection of Lester Binnie books that were put together in the 1970s. He indexed the name of every person buried in the cemeteries in Kosciusko County, and bound them into township books. These sources have been invaluable in my research efforts throughout the years. He not only listed the graves, but put them in section order, so that you can walk right to the grave you are searching for.
Another category of books in our collection are Kosciusko County Court records. The court records begin in the 1840s and continue forward. We also have Plat books beginning in 1978.
Our collection indexes to county military records beginning in the Civil War era. These records include Burial Records, registration and draft numbers, and widow and orphans information.
If your research extends to local towns, we have books on virtually every Kosciusko town or township, as well as Kosciusko history and biographical sketches. We also have books on the many local businesses and some now defunct businesses in the county.
Need more? We have yearbooks for the Warsaw Community High School, George Nye’s series on the county, alumni directories, old phone books, and of course the micofilm of the local newspapers, which begins in the 1860s.
Please stop in at the Warsaw Community Public Library, and see everything we have to offer you in or genealogy collections.
