Potter Extends Lead At IWGA
MONTICELLO – Julia Potter is one step closer to winning her third Indiana Women’s Golf Association title.
Potter, a Penn graduate and former star at the University of Missouri, was one of only two players to better par today at Tippecanoe Country Club during the second round of the IWGA State Amateur Championship. With birdies on holes one, 11, and 13 Potter posted a 1-under-par, 71 and heads to the final round with a three-shot lead over Richmond’s Trish Witherby.
If Potter were able to win for a third time, she would be one of only eight women in the state of Indiana to accomplish this feat.
Fellow Kingsmen alum Kari Bellville is tied for seventh overall, seven strokes back after a three-over 75. Bellville, a golfer with the University of Notre Dame, is tied with three other golfers.
Among other locals, no one else is in contention. Elkhart’s Brenna Sherwood, an IPFW product, was plus-six and sits tied in 39th place. Goshen High School alum and Drury University golfer Heather Gladfelter is tied for 45th after a 10-over.
Rounding out the day-two area scores were Melanie DeGroff of Elkhart (plus-19) tied for 56th; Kinley Lingenfelter of Rochester (plus-10) tied for 64th with Lindsey Budnik of Manchester and IUPUI; Kovenant Lingenfelter of Rochester (plus-21) in 76th; and Karsten Lingenfelter of Rochester (plus-21) in 81st.
After today, the field was divided into seven flights for the final round, to be played Thursday. The top twenty players comprise the Championship Flight. Second round results can be found here.
