Former Serenity House Manager Arrested
A former residential house manager for Serenity House was arrested Wednesday for false informing.
StaceyPageOnline.com has learned that Charles Leroy Leiter, 51, of Warsaw, lost the job he held at Serenity House for approximately 6 months just about 2 weeks ago. Sources say Leiter lied to narcotics officers about a resident’s failed drug test.
Although Warsaw Police are not providing details, our sources say police were investigating a case that led to the discovery that Leiter lied to officers saying one of the residents passed a drug test when he actually failed it.
Serenity House Inc. operates alcohol and drug abuse residential recovery homes in Northeast Indiana, including two homes in Warsaw. The program was founded in 1994 and is a not-for-profit operation that accepts drug addicts and alcoholics who want to be rehabilitated.
Locally, there are two recovery houses for men. Jeffery “Hoss” Smith is the current residential manager for both houses and works closely with the courts to find candidates for the program. Serenity House uses the principles, practice and theory of 12-step recovery.
Smith had no comment on the matter.
Leiter was charged with a Class C misdemeanor count of false informing and booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on a $500 cash bond.
