Warsaw Clobbers Franklin At State Tourney
WABASH – Warsaw’s first step into the Indiana State little league tournament was a dominant one. The Warsaw Senior Little League team made no bones its in Wabash to win a title after clobbering the Franklin All-Stars, 14-0, in six innings in the first game of pool play Tuesday.
Warsaw, which reached the state tournament after run-rule wins over South Bend South Side at the Regional tournament two weeks ago, looked potent once again versus an overmatched Franklin nine. Blake Foreman picked up the win with two innings of starting work, with Marselo Rodriguez and Drew Wright closing out the final four innings of the shut out.
At the dish, Rodriguez paced Warsaw with a double and triple while Bryce Sensibaugh and Tommy Hickerson each added two hits. Wright, Collin Marshall and Kenton Cornell added hits to pace the Warsaw attack in the game played at Wabash High School.
“We took today as ‘live in the moment’, and after the game the moment was over,” began Warsaw head coach Jeff Fitzgerald. “Time to look towards the next game.
“Our pitching was outstanding. Having to battle pitch counts with day’s rest, we really delivered.”
Up next for the boys from Kosciusko County is Bedford in a 5 p.m. matchup at the Wabash city park. Warsaw plays again Thursday night at 8 p.m. back at Wabash High School. Warsaw are now in great shape to advance to the semi-finals, needing to finish in the top two of the pool, but have the win in hand and zero runs given up as part of the tie-breaking aggregate formula if needed.
