Warsaw Drops Heartbreaker To Wabash
WABASH – The good fortunes temporarily came to a halt for the Warsaw Senior Little League baseball team Thursday night. Playing the final game of the pool play series at the Indiana State little league tournament, Warsaw lost to Wabash, 6-5, in eight innings.
The back-and-forth contest had four lead changes and two ties, including Warsaw plating the tying run in the bottom of the seventh with a bases loaded walk, but could not get the winning run across. Wabash would score the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth on a one-out double, Warsaw unable able to answer in the bottom half.
The game was the second straight contest Warsaw played an extra-inning affair at the state tourney, needing eight innings to defeat Bedford, 4-1, Wednesday. Warsaw went 2-1 in Pool B play, beating Franklin, 12-0, in tournament’s first day.
The Warsaw squad, despite the loss, will advance to the state semi-finals, taking on Portage at 2 p.m this afternoon at Wabash High School. Portage (3-0) won Pool A while Wabash (3-0), winners of Pool B, will face Fort Wayne Hamilton Park (2-1), Pool A’s runner-up, at 5 p.m. in the second semi-final.
Winners from today’s semi-finals will meet at 2 p.m. Saturday for the state championship. All the remaining games will be played at Wabash High School.
