Mildred R. Frantz
Mildred R. Frantz, 96, of Warsaw, Ind., passed away at 1:40 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, in The Hearth at Sycamore Village, Fort Wayne, Ind.
On Oct. 13, 1917, she was born in Bluffton, Ind., to Theophilus and Mary Louise (Tillman) Gavin. She was united in marriage to Donald E. Frantz on Dec. 24, 1942, in Louisville, Ky. He preceded her in death on Nov. 7, 2012.
After living in Bluffton and Vincennes, Ind., Mildred moved to Warsaw in 1958. She was an elementary school teacher, teaching at Liberty Center, Wells County, Vincennes and Warsaw schools, retiring in 1980. She was a graduate from Ball State Teachers College in 1937.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Warsaw, where she was involved with the Choir and Women’s Circle. Her memberships included Mobile Meals, Chairman Community Concerts, Live and Learn Homemaker Club, County Choral Club retiring in 1996, Zerelda Reading Club, Salvation Army Auxiliary and Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by her daughter: Mary Alice Garrett, Warsaw; and her son: James Richard (Nanette) Frantz, Warsaw; three granddaughters: Stephanie (Jim) McDairmant, Warsaw; Jennifer (Justin) Smith, Fort Wayne, Ind.; and Olivia (Dan) Coons, Warsaw; four great- grandchildren: Darby, Andon, Olivia and Wyatt; and a niece: Beverly Fort, Nashville.
She also preceded in death by her brother: Robert Gavin.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, in First United Methodist Church, Warsaw. The funeral service will immediately follow at 1 p.m. in the church with Pastor Scott Carmer and Pastor Bill Wood officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
