Doubles Play Paces Tigers
WARSAW – A dominating display by its’ doubles teams carried the Warsaw boys tennis team to a season-opening win Wednesday evening.
The host Tigers lost just a total of five games on the two doubles courts in topping Huntington North by a 4-1 final.
The pair of Christopher Herendeen and Justin Stout posted a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles for the Tigers.
Warsaw, which had its opener at Westview postponed by rain Tuesday night, got a 6-0, 6-2 win from its’ No. 2 doubles duo of Caleb Ray and Cole Baker.
Nic Jansen notched a 6-1, 7-5 at the top singles spot for coach Rick Orban’s squad, which advanced to the semi state title match last year.
Ryan Wettschurack registered a 6-1, 2-6, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles for Warsaw.
The Tigers were without Sam Rice. The senior, who played No. 1 singles last season, missed the match due to an illness.
Warsaw won the JV action by a 5-1 count. David Homme won in singles play for the JV Tigers. Also winning were the doubles teams of Hudson Snyder and Colton Lind, Kyler Bartol and Hayden Steger, Keeton Bartol and Evan Ousley and Drew McCollom and Wesley Shuler.
The Tigers are scheduled to play at Penn Thursday.
