Young Adults Are Reading Divergent
The Syracuse Library is starting the school year with opportunities for young people to join a group to talk about books. Come at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, for a card game day. Teens that have not seen the movie Divergent or read the book should get a copy so they can pick a favorite character. Divergent by Veronica Roth will be the topic for the Sept. 16 meeting.
The Children’s Book Club meets at 5 p.m. the second Tuesday to begin some partying fun while sharing some stories. All the youth book clubs have a snack and a chance to have first pick of the new books.
September is National Library Card Sign-up Month
Adults don’t have any trouble finding a reason to want a library card. They might want to borrow movies or books. They might want a card number to quickly walk in to use the computers, or they want to read e-books for free. But, parents should realize that they have to sign up for their child’s library card. Every parent wants their child to succeed, and one of the simplest ways to ensure a child’s academic success is by making a quick trip to the library.
An adult wanting a Syracuse library card for themselves or their child just needs to have photo identification and proof that they live in Turkey Creek Township. The card is free for anyone living in the township and for students in the Wawasee school district.
Girl in Translation
The adult book club, One Book, One Hour, meets at 6:30 p.m. the second Wednesday of the month. The group is discussing Girl in Translation, by Jean Kwok. Immigrants from Hong Kong, a mother and daughter find themselves caught in a harsh life working in a Chinatown sweatshop in Brooklyn. The book chronicles the pressures that ensnare immigrants and what it means to live their lives. The library is happy to help any interested readers get a copy of the book.
The library may be reached at 574-457-3022.
