Warsaw Sports Wrap – Sept. 20
The Warsaw boys cross country team placed 13th Saturday in the New Prairie Invitational.
The Tigers, who were without the trio of Owen Glogovsky, Nick Bergen and Avery Torres, posted a team score of 351 competing in the Class AAA Division.
Munster won the division title with a score of 62. Lake Central was second with a 102, followed by Portage (110), Valparaiso (111) and LaPorte (175) to round out the top five.
Senior Daniel Messenger led the way for the Tigers by placing 32nd overall in a time of 17:06.
Jonathan Beres was the second Warsaw runner to cross the finish line as he placed 62nd in a time of 17:45. Jacob DeBoest was 65th in 17:50, followed by Jacob Adley in 85th (18:15), Matt Hastings in 107th, Erick Cusick in 143rd (19:53) and Cameron Hoskins in 148th (20:06).
Ryan Kritzer of Munster won the race in 16:06. Conner Sandt of Northridge was fourth overall in 16:24.
Freshman Lucas Howett led Warsaw to an 11th place team finish in the Freshman/Sophomore race. Howett placed 11th overall in a time of 17:50.
Nathaniel Gottschalk was 45th in 18:50, with Trent Thompson 71st (19:29), Sam Yeager 84th (19:50), Taylor Mills 106th (20:26), Trent Shepherd 119th (20:54) and Ryan Bonebrake 134th (21:29).
In the Reserve race, Nathan Miller was 55th overall in a time of 20:01 for Warsaw. Colton Andrews was 76th in 20:26, with Evan Hansen 124th (21:16), Riley Hogenson 126th (21:21), Justin Flemming 128th (21:24), Griffin Roark 134th (21:31) and Eric Williamson 162nd (22:07).
Warsaw will host conference foe Concord and Plymouth Tuesday at WCHS at 5:30 p.m.
JV Tennis Team Places Second
Champions Ryan Wettschurack and Colton Lind led Warsaw to a second-place finish Saturday in the NLC JV Boys Tennis Tournament held at Wawasee.
Plymouth won the team title with 22 points. Warsaw was second with 19, followed by Goshen (17), Northridge (12), NorthWood (11), Concord (6), Wawasee (4) and Elkhart Memorial (4).
Wettschurack won the No. 1 singles title by beating Jacob Grewe of Goshen 8-5 in the title match.
Lind topped Ricky Cooper of Plymouth 8-5 in the finals to win at No. 2 singles.
The No. 2 doubles team of Hudson Snyder and Keeton Bartel placed third for Warsaw. The No. 1 doubles duo of Wesley Shuler and Drew McCollom placed fourth. Nick Marsh finished in fifth place at No. 3 singles for the Tigers.
Warsaw will play at Concord Monday at 5 p.m.
