Semi Sought in Pierceton Auto Accident
At approximately 10:11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 29, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, Multi-Township EMS and Pierceton Fire Department responded to a wreck on US 30 near 450 East.
According to First Sergeant Chad Hill of KCSD, Darrel Gene Huffman, 64, of Columbia City, was traveling westbound on US 30. Huffman was slowing down to turn onto 450 East when the semi that was following him rear-ended his vehicle.
The collision caused Huffman’s truck to flip over the guard rail, end-over-end, coming to a rest at the bottom of the hill at the roadside. The semi reportedly continued westbound on US 30.
Huffman was extricated from his vehicle by emergency personnel, and transported to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne with a broken arm. Police have not yet been able to locate the semi that struck Huffman’s vehicle.
Little information is known about the semi, other than the cab was red in color. “We’re looking for anybody who might have witnessed the wreck or anybody who might have more information,” says Hill. Anyone with any information pertaining to the accident should call KCSD at (574) 267-5667.
