Rochester Runs Past Valley
AKRON – The Rochester running game was in high gear Friday night.
The Zebras piled up the yards on the ground in handing host Tippecanoe Valley a 35-8 defeat.
Rochester rushed for 343 yards in the Three Rivers Conference contest to remain unbeaten in league play.
The Vikings, who drop to 1-6 overall and 1-4 in the TRC, took an 8-0 lead in the second quarter. Jonah Mikel caught a two-yard touchdown pass from Alec Craig and then Craig ran for a two-point conversion.
From there, it was all Rochester as the Zebras scored the game’s final 35 points to regain the Bell.
The Zebras, who improve to 6-1 overall and remain tied with Whitko atop the TRC standings at 5-0, out gained the Vikings 390-148.
John Hunting ran for a score and threw a touchdown pass for the Zebras. Jay Heckathorn also ran for a 73-yard score for Rochester.
Garrett Bell led the Viking offense with 77 yards rushing on 19 carries.
Craig went 5-9 passing for 39 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
The Vikings turned the ball over three times in the loss.
Valley plays at North Miami and Rochester hosts Whitko in TRC games next Friday night.
