Teen Read Week
Young adults can read many books written specially for their interests. National Teen Read Week, the third week in October, encourages teens to be regular readers and library users. The Syracuse Library is ending the week with a lock-in for teens called, Surviving a Zombie Apocalypse. Many fun activities will take place after the library closes, so any young people that want to join the evening need a parent’s permission form turned into the library.
Call the library for information at (574) 457-3022.
Children’s Department
Book Buddies have a scrub-a-dub time on Monday to learn about hand washing. Tuesday, Oct.14, is story time with an alphabet letter. Parents are welcome to bring children aged 18 months through preschool age on both days at 10:30 a.m.
The Children’s Book Club meets at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14. The October book club is all about pumpkins. They read pumpkin books, paint pumpkins, and drink pumpkin juice. Children from kindergarten to fifth-grade are welcome to join an evening of reading, activities and snacks.
Kids explore play dough and sculpture while parents talk at the Thursday homeschooler’s meeting. Any interested families are welcome to attend this 2 p.m. meeting.
Easy Crochet Project
Easy is the best way to describe the project that will be presented at the Saturday meeting of String Theory. Christy Haab is showing a circular crochet pattern that can be used to cover a jar that can be filled with potpourri or layered cookie mix. Drop-ins are welcome from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18.
Library Renovations
The decorating template of the colors and fabrics that going to replace the old furnishings are on display boards in the adult department. The circulation of books and usage in the library has been increasing over the last two years.
The library board wants to insure that the facility is able to meet these increasing demands. The last renovation took place during the 1990 building addition.
