Looking Forward To Candidate Forum
Dear Editor,
I am a voter. I am not a politician nor am I familiar with running a campaign.
In the 23 years I’ve lived in this community I have never gotten involved in the political process, except to vote.
What I’ve learned is that politics seems to bring out the worst in all of us. I know that I found myself saying things that were less than kind. I have seen supporters on both sides be unkind, accusatory and suspicious of each other.
What I have not seen is either candidate displaying this behavior. They have been busy campaigning while the rest of us are tearing each other apart and at times tearing them apart.
I’ve seen this community change over the years, public opinion on controversial issues included.
I honestly believe that David Kolbe would be better suited to represent the majority of the constituents of District 22. His views cross over political lines and, given his experience in law, he is able to see both sides of an issue and weigh the pros and cons in order to find the best solution.
These are the skills we need in a representative. We need a person who can lessen the divide we are seeing and mitigate the anger and bad behavior that comes from that division. I think David Kolbe is the person who can accomplish this.
I’m looking forward to the upcoming Candidates’ Forum. It will be a place to hear the candidates themselves, and not the rest of us! I think we’ve all done enough talking and enough damage.
