UPDATE: Accident On Old 30
Pierceton fire and police departments, Multi-Township EMS and Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department responded to the single vehicle accident at Old Road 30 and CR 650E.
Donn Baird, 73, East Trusdell Avenue, Syracuse, and his wife, Linda W. Baird, 74, were taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital each complaining of neck pain, following an accident at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Mikel Hatcher, North Westerner Winds Drive, Warsaw, told police he was eastbound on Old 30 and began turning his vehicle north onto CR 650E, not seeing Baird’s vehicle until he was already in the oncoming lane of travel. Hatcher came to a stop narrowly missing Baird’s vehicle.
Baird swerved to miss Hatcher’s vehicle and was unable to stop before his vehicle struck a utility pole and small trees on the northwest corner of the intersection. Also damaged was a parked van, registered to Jennifer L. Combs, which sustained windshield damage from fallen phone lines. Damage was estimated up to $25,000.
INITIAL: Emergency personnel are currently responding to an accident located on Old 30 and CR 650E.
According to reports, power lines are believed to be down in the area as a result of the accident. Drivers are advised to avoid the area at this time.
