“It will be ‘Shoe Sunday’ at North Webster Church of God, Nov. 1,” announced Chris Waldrop of the church staff. To assist the chamber in collecting shoes for overseas, the church has a goal of 500 pairs to be donated on that date. The shoes go to Third World countries to set up micro businesses to provide shoes for those who do not have them. By providing shoes for this endeavor, the chamber receives a small stipend to use for local projects.
Owen Family Funeral Homes has been selected n as the chamber’s “Business of the Month” for October. Owner Richard Owen and his family are active in community organizations in both North Webster and Syracuse, contributing back to the area.
The Santa visit committee is already making plans reported Stacey Cox, chairman. From 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, a celebration of the holiday season will be held for children at the North Webster Community Center. Games and activities will be in the gym, Santa visits and photos will be in the party room and snacks will be in the banquet hall.
A parade led by a fire truck will form at the community center and proceed down SR 13 to Pilcher’s lawn at 5 p.m. The lighting of the town tree will be at approximately 5:30 p.m. All children, parents and grandparents are welcome to attend inside and participate outside too. The event is free because of the funds raised by the chamber at the Heart of the Harvest Fall Festival.
The chamber’s annual Christmas dinner for members and employees will be held Monday, Dec. 8. Invitations will go out along with the yearly invoice to renew membership. Ward cautioned, “It is important to check all the papers that come in this mailing so as not to miss anything.”
The next meeting of the chamber general membership will be noon Monday, Nov. 10, North Webster American Legion Post 253, 756 S. SR 13.
