Lady Lancers Charge By Foresters
WINONA LAKE – Grace’s offense was explosive on Friday night in a 3-0 sweep of Huntington’s volleyball team at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center.
The Lady Lancers (22-7, 11-2 Crossroads League) had a .295 attacking percentage as a team, led by a match-high 14 kills by Kaitlin Kerrigan and 12 more from Calah Kruse. Friday’s match was a “Pink Out” to raise awareness for breast cancer.
Grace dominated the match, amassing 13 more kills over the three-set victory. Ellie Harp had 12 assists in each of the opening two sets, which Grace won by identical 25-15 scores. In the first set, Grace’s attack was particularly deadly with 15 kills and only one error.
The Foresters (4-16, 2-11 CL) put up a fight in the third set, staying within striking distance of the Lady Lancers. But timely kills down the stretch from Sierra Smith and Kerrigan crushed any hopes of a Huntington comeback.
As a team, Grace had 10 service aces with three from Kruse and two apiece from Sara Miller and Grace Woolsey. Woolsey also added seven kills and two block assists.
Harp finished with 30 assists and nine digs, Hannah Clemmons tallied 14 digs, and Tori Bontrager added four kills and three block assists.
The Lady Lancers resume league play on Wednesday night with a match at Marian.
