Redskins Earn Soccer Regional Crown
MISHAWAKA – Shootout sessions have been very good to the Goshen boys soccer team this postseason.
That trend continued for the regional champion Redskins on Saturday afternoon.
Goshen captured the shootout session by a 4-2 count to top South Bend St. Joseph 1-0 in the title game of the Class 2-A Mishawaka Regional at Baker Park.
The No. 16 Redskins advance to the Warsaw Semistate next Saturday to face No. 1 Chesterton (19-0) in the first semifinal at 10 a.m. The winner earns a spot in the semi state title match at 7 p.m. next Saturday at WCHS.
Goshen goalie Tyler Born came up with two saves over four rounds and Goshen was perfect to claim the win.
Goshen got shootout conversions from JT Plavchak, Sebastian Flores, Lucas Bontreger and Alfredo Vasquez in the win.
The Redskins are now 7-0f-7 on shootout shots in the postseason. Their opponents are just 2-of-7 with Born making four stops.
Goshen claimed its second regional title with the other coming in 2007.
The Redskins advance with a mark of 17-2-1, while St. Joe finishes at 11-4-4.
