Syracuse Woman Flown to Memorial
Cassandra Rautenkranz, 28, Syracuse, was airlifted from Goshen Municipal Airport to Memorial Hospital, South Bend, following an accident Wednesday morning.
Rautenkranz suffered a laceration to her head. She was transported to the airport by ambulance.
The accident occurred at 11:38 a.m. on US 33 south of CR 42, near Benton. Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department reports Rautenkranz was northbound on US 33, south of CR 42. For an unknown reason her vehicle went left of center and hit a southbound semitrailer.
Melkemu Lombeso, 31, Cincinnati, Ohio, was driving a Freightliner semitractor southbound, hauling a semitrailer, when he saw the vehicle hit the semitrailer.
Police report there was extensive side impact damage to Rautenkranz’s 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse and extensive damage to the driver’s side of the trailer.
Rautenkranz was cited for driving left of center.
