Triton Teams Taste Success
BOURBON – It was a big weekend for fall sports athletes at Triton High School.
The football team started the winning ways Friday night with a 34-20 win at South Central in a Class 1-A sectional playoff opener.
Jeremy Jones busted loose for three touchdown runs in the second half to spark the Trojans to their first sectional win since 2010.
Coach John Johns’ team, now 3-7, will host Northern State Conference foe LaVille (7-3) Friday night at 7 p.m. LaVille, which defeated Lake Station 31-0 Friday night, topped Triton back on Oct. 9 by a 31-0 final at LaVille.
Tickets for the Trojans’ home game Friday night are $6 each and will be available only at the game on Friday night.
The Triton volleyball team beat South Central and Oregon-Davis Saturday to win the Class 1-A Culver Sectional championship.
It was the first volleyball sectional title for the Trojans since 2002.
Coach Samantha Willsey’s team will play at Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian Tuesday night at 7 in a regional match. Triton is 15-13, while No. 11 Blackhawk Christian, which won its own sectional title Saturday night by beating Bethany Christian 3-0 in the final, is 23-8.
Tickets for the volleyball regional match at Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian are $6 each and will be available only at the door Tuesday night.
The Triton cross country programs were represented Saturday at the New Prairie Semistate. Senior Derek Johnston placed 122nd overall in the boys race with a time of 18:06.8 and freshman Baylee McIntire placed 133rd overall in the girls race with a time of 22:12.7.
