Harold J. Miller
Harold J. Miller, 90, formerly of Nappanee, passed away at 9:17 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Wakarusa.
He was born Sept. 24, 1924, in Nappanee, to William E. and Bertha (Brumbaugh) Miller. He was a 1943 graduate of Nappanee High School. He graduated from the Freight Traffic Institute in 1949 with a degree in traffic management and distribution. On Dec. 3, 1966, he married Lois I. Wooldridge in Hutchinson, Kan.
He had a long career in management and distribution beginning with the Carey Salt Co. in Hutchinson. He retired in 1987 from Domtar Industries, Sifto Salt Division, in Chicago, where he had served as vice president. After retirement he moved back to Nappanee and formed Mineral Logistics, a consulting firm for dry, bulk commodities shippers. In 1990 he retired and moved to Cape Coral, Fla., coming back to Nappanee in 1994. Mr. Miller was a member of Nappanee Church of the Brethren. Mr. Miller enjoyed working, he also was a caregiver for family members. He was an avid White Sox fan.
He is survived by his wife; daughters: Kay (Doug) McMullen, Nappanee; Gay ‘Bobbie’ (Mark) Sellers, Elk Grove Village, Ill.; grandchildren: Kelly Fisher, Nappanee; Jessica (Chad) Haviland, Wakarusa; Ashley Sellers, William Corey Sellers, both of Elk Grove; great-grandchildren: Allison Slagle, Cadence Fisher; and a brother: Jackie (Noma) Miller, Nappanee.
He was preceded in death by a sister: Margaret Cripe; half-sisters: Mabel Burns, DeEtta Andrews; and half-brothers: Roy ‘Jack’ Bean and Ray Bean.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 5, at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee and from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, at Nappanee Church of the Brethren. Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, at the church with Reverend Byrl Shaver officiating and burial will be in Union Center Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to Nappanee Church of the Brethren.
