Creative cooking, facility tours, movie viewings, a harvest celebration and a food security summit await those who participate in this year’s Share the Bounty Week.
Share the Bounty Week, Nov. 16-22, highlights efforts to improve food access in Elkhart County.
So far, eight businesses, agencies, and churches have collaborated to host seven events that address food access or food insecurity during the week.
Groups include the Goshen Boys and Girls Club, Church Community Services, Maple City Market, The Window, and the Goshen Farmers Market.
The collaboration between these groups highlights another theme of Share the Bounty Week: partnerships.
“I know that when something falls outside of my mission that you will fulfill your mission,” said Rod Roberson of CCS during a planning meeting for Share the Bounty’s kick off event, The Food Security Summit.
“Right, it’s trust,” said Adrianne Penner of the Goshen Boys and Girls Club during the same meeting. “I trust that on the weekends when I am not working with our kids, that you have taken care of their families. It’s not any one of us that is the solution to the problem, but together, each of us do our part.”
Share the Bounty Week was created in 2013 to bring the community together to ask “How do we make healthy, local food more accessible?”
You can see a full list of events, register for The Food Security Summit, and submit your own food access highlights at foodshed.info/bounty as well as on Facebook.
