Yeo Goes Off Again For Pilots
LACROSSE, Wisc. – Sophomore guard Clay Yeo continued his fine play scoring 21 points and grabbing 10 rebounds as the No. 10 ranked Bethel College men’s basketball defeated (RV) Waldorf University 75-56 in the Viterbo University Invitational. The win improves the Pilots’ record to a perfect 7-0 on the season.
Bethel would struggle to find their shooting touch in the opening half of play connecting on only 30.3 percent from the field (10-of-33) and a dismal 14.3 percent from beyond the arc (2-of-14). The sluggish shooting would carry over onto the defensive end as Waldorf would jump out to a 10-point lead (25-15) with seven minutes left to play.
Matt Schauss would eventually get the Pilot offense into a rhythm as his bucket at the 5:40 mark helped spark an 11-2 run capped off with a basket from Yeo to eventually tie the contest for the sixth time at 27-27 with 2:40 remaining.
Neither squad was unable to put another point on the board for the remainder of the half.
The Pilots would come out of intermission with a completely different mindset as both the defensive intensity and offensive ball movement would lead to two clean looks from three-point range for Zach Miller leading to a quick 16-6 BC run to go up 43-33.
Waldorf would cut the lead in half at 45-38 with 14:52 remaining, but freshman Chris Mitchell would help start a 19-3 Bethel run over the next six minutes to go up 21 (62-41). During the game-changing spurt the Pilots would get buckets from Yeo, Jordyn Coon and Travis Smith as well as three trifecta’s from Caleb Oetjen, Ryan Wassink and Miller.
The deficit would be too much to overcome for Waldorf as they came no closer than 15-points the rest of the way.
For the game, Bethel shot 46.0 percent on 29-of-63 shooting while Waldorf connected on 20-of-56 for 30 percent.
Miller would add 15 points including 5-of-9 from long range. He is now only nine three’s away from reaching the all-time record at Bethel College.
Schauss added a solid performance of 14 points, five rebounds and four assists while Coon, Wassink and Oetjen finished with six points, respectively.
Bethel (7-0) will quickly turn around and play the hosts from Viterbo University (2-1) on Saturday, November 15 at 4:00pm.
