Edwards Earns Freshman POTW Honors
WEST LAFAYETTE – The 2014 basketball season is starting out nicely for the Purdue Boilermakers. Head coach Matt Painter’s squad won its first two games last week and one new addition to the team caught the attention of the Big Ten Conference.
Freshman Vince Edwards (Middletown, OH) was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week by the conference for his impressive performances in wins over both Samford and IUPUI last week.
Edwards scored 13 points, grabbed eight boards and tallied a pair of assists for the Boilers in his debut against Samford. In Sunday’s contest against IUPUI Edwards scored 26 points and pulled down another eight rebounds, an accomplishment not done by a Boiler since the 1981 season. Edwards also recorded three blocks in Sunday’s game.
Edwards is the first Boiler to win Freshman of the Week honors since Bryson Scott did it in December of last season.
