Tigers Take Three At Home Invite
WARSAW – The wrestling season opened with a little flair for the Warsaw Tigers, winning three of its five duals at the Warsaw Tiger Invite Saturday. Mixed into the three wins were two key wins in the Northern Lakes Conference over Wawasee and Northridge.
Warsaw beat Wawasee 46-31 in round two and came right back and knocked off Northridge 45-31 in round three. Warsaw opened with a 41-30 loss to Adams Central, beat South Bend St. Joseph’s 42-34 in round four and closed with a 42-31 loss to Huntington North.
Weight class winners for Warsaw included Kyle Hatch in the 120-pound class at 5-0, Jeremy Lee in the 132-pound class at 5-0, Rory Nolin in the 195-pound class at 5-0 and Andrew Brock in the 220-pound class at 5-0. Hatch was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the invitational with four pins among his five wins.
Wawasee fell on the opposite of the ledger, losing all five of its duals. The Warriors fell to Northridge 52-27, Warsaw 46-31, Huntington North 61-18, Adams Central 58-9 and South Bend St. Joseph’s 62-19. Leading Wawasee in individual performances were Ronny Shortt going 2-0, Tristin Ponsler went 4-1 and Stephen Possell finished 3-2.
Warsaw will return to the mat Dec. 2 in hosting Elkhart Memorial while Wawasee will host the Wawasee November Duals next Saturday.
