Indiana freshman guard James Blackmon Jr. was named Freshman of the Week by the conference for his performance in Indiana’s wins over Texas Southern, No. 22 SMU and Lamar last week.
Blackmon Jr. averaged 22 points and six rebounds in the team’s three victories. He shot 54-percent from the field and 62-percent from three-point range over the week. The three-point shooting success was at a peak in Thursday’s win over No. 22 SMU in which he hit five shots from deep.
Blackmon Jr. is the first Hoosier to earn this honor since Troy Williams did it in March of last season. Purdue’s Vince Edwards won last week’s Freshman of the Week honors.
