Our Father’s House Packs 90 Thanksgiving Meal Baskets
Our Father’s House of Warsaw is working to make a big difference in the lives of nearly 100 people this Thanksgiving. Yesterday, workers from the organization packed 90 Thanksgiving meals complete with turkeys, stuffing, green bean casserole fixings, pies or pie ingredients and more.
According to Founding Director Roz Morgan, the effort would not have been possible without the support of several community members and organizations. Our Father’s House, which is entirely staffed by unpaid volunteers, has provided meals for a total of 16 years. The effort was made possible by the assistance of fellow organizers Sacred Heart Church and School and Saint Anne’s Episcopal Church of Warsaw, who assisted in raising food items and creating baskets.
“This was a huge coordinated effort,” explained Morgan. “The children at Sacred Heart, in each classroom, collected a different item. It is a huge effort. What we don’t receive through donations Our Father’s House pays for. I think it is charity at its purist form. There are children who have never met the recipients of the gifts learning, ‘do unto others what you’d have done unto you.’ Little kids are getting their first blush of valuing someone else’s existence.”
Morgan noted donations were also gathered for the baskets through the Supermarket Sweet event put on by Our Father’s House. Those looking to get involved with holiday meal donations may begin doing so for Christmas by donating meat or food items directly to Our Father’s House. Those looking to make a large donation may call (574) 268-1800.
