Janet A. Davis, 78, of Syracuse, passed away at 3:05 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 8, 2014, at I.U. Goshen Hospital in Goshen.

She was born on Aug. 16, 1936, in Marion, to John Franklin and Doris Lucille (Bragg) Shroat. She graduated in 1954 from Marion High School, attended Indiana University in Bloomington and graduated in 1977 from Anderson College. She was married on May 15, 1982, in Anderson to Richard L. ‘Dick’ Davis, who survives, and moved to the Syracuse area in 1982 from Anderson.

She was formerly employed at Layman Life Insurance Company in Anderson for 5 years. She was the owner/operator of Janet Davis Tax Prep where she was a private accountant and tax preparer. She was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Syracuse where she sang in the church choir and was active in the St. Andrews United Methodist Women. She also was a member of the Tri Kappa Sorority, Ladies of the Round Table, and the National Association of Tax Professionals and formerly attended the First United Methodist Church in Anderson.

She is survived by her husband; three daughters: Dr. Diane Begley, Lafayette; Beverly Begley, Georgetown; and Cheryl (Mark) Jordon, Greenfield; three sons: Dr. Jeffrey Begley, Los Angeles, Calif.; Brian (Brenda) Begley, White Lake, Mich.; and Dr. Benjamin Begley, Carbondale, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother: John (Bev) Shroat, Valparaiso.

She was preceded in death by her parents and stepson: Michael Davis.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014, at St. Andrews United Methodist Church, 1413 N. Long, Syracuse, with Pastor Ed Beedle officiating. Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, is in charge of the arrangements
