An Elkhart church will host a special service to brighten the spirits of people who find the holiday season painful.
At 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, First Presbyterian Church in Elkhart will present ‘The Longest Night,’ an evening of prayer and worship to comfort people facing Christmas without a loved one, coping with old memories, dealing with family divisions, struggling with unemployment, or experiencing other challenges that can increase feelings of isolation during the holidays.
“Christmas is not a time of joy for everyone,” said Rev. Sarah Sanderson-Doughty, Co-Pastor for First Presbyterian Church. “Grieving during this time of year can be very painful. Each year, we host ‘The Longest Night’ to show people that no matter what they’re going through, God loves them and they’re not alone.”
The Longest Night is open to anyone. After the service, guests will be invited to enjoy refreshments and fellowship with other members of the community. Childcare is available.
First Presbyterian Church provides a peaceful, welcoming forum for people in the greater Elkhart community to discover what it means to be a Christian in today’s world.
Through supportive relationships and enriching fellowships, classes and programs, First Presbyterian Church helps men, women, couples, families, seniors, youth and children nurture a deeper faith and develop a clearer vision for Christian life that can make a positive difference in the world.
