Wildcats Pound Peru In Tourney
PERU – The Whitko girls basketball team rolled to a big win Monday in semifinal action of the Miami County Tournament.
The Wildcats plastered host Peru 68-28 in the four-team tourney.
Whitko advances to the championship game back at Peru Tuesday night at 6 p.m. The Wildcats will play Maconaquah (3-10) in the title tilt. Maconaquah edged past North Miami 39-38 in the other semifinal Monday. Peru will play North Miami (2-10) in the consolation game at noon Tuesday.
The Wildcats led 14-7 after the first quarter before outscoring the Tigers 22-4 in the second stanza to lead 36-11 at halftime.
The 1-2 punch of Ally Reiff and Brianna Cumberland shot lights out for the winners.
Reiff canned 28 points and Cumberland finished with 25 for the Wildcats. Reiff hit five treys and Cumberland connected on three from distance.
Whitko snapped a two-game losing streak to improve to 6-5. The Wildcats had lost 42-38 at home to Tippecanoe Valley Dec. 20 in a Three Rivers Conference game and 42-40 at West Noble on Dec. 18.
Peru drops to 6-5 on the season.
