Ink Free News has been hearing from readers that many people and businesses are receiving calls for this NIPSCO scam; not just in Nappanee.  We strongly suggest that if you receive a call claiming to be an official representative, that you verify the number and give the official company a return call.

The Nappanee Police Department shared the following information:

We have an important scam alert to pass on to NIPSCO customers. The utility company is warning folks about a bill payment scheme that’s making the rounds in our area.

Customers have reported receiving unsolicited phone calls from people falsely claiming to be NIPSCO representatives.

The scammers threaten disconnection of the customer’s electric service if an immediate payment is not made.

NIPSCO says you can always call them if you’re unsure about the legitimacy of a call you’ve received.
