Kosciusko County Council Meeting Sees Election Of 2015 Officers
Thursday evening’s Kosciusko County Council meeting saw Robert Sanders retain his position as council president and councilman Jim Moyer slide into role of vice-president for 2015.
Sanders opened the meeting by asking his fellow council members for nominations. Councilman Jon Graber cited Sanders’ and Moyer’s relationships in the area and past performance as reason for the two men to serve the roles of president and vice president for the council’s 2015 year. The motion was seconded by councilman Brad Tandy, and then approved unanimously by the rest of the members.
The meeting was also the first for Kosciusko County Auditor Michelle Puckett. Sanders welcomed Puckett stating, “I would like to welcome Michelle to the front desk. I look forward to working with you.”
Transfers of funds within the sheriff’s, highway, health, commissioner’s and Statewide 911 departments were approved unanimously. A list of the transfers can be found on the meeting agenda.
The council also approved this year’s new contract for Kosciusko County Sheriff Aaron Rovenstine. As Sanders explained it, “The state tells us how much we have to pay the sheriff.” Rovenstine responded by saying, “I just want everyone to be happy.” The banter was playful, and the new contract was approved by the council.
Puckett stated that with her filling her new position and another person from her office having departed, there are now two open positions in the auditor’s office to fill. She requested permission to fill the positions herself. The request was approved unanimously. She explained that, “Both positions are in the financial part of the office.”
The meeting closed when County Commissioner Rob Truex stood from his seat and playfully exclaimed how much he had enjoyed the 22-minute meeting, before inviting everyone in attendance to the county commissioners meeting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13.
