North Chicago Trio Charged With Stealing Toys Meant For Tots
A north Chicago park board commissioner and two park district employees, one of which is the commissioner’s son, were charged with felony theft Monday, Jan. 12, for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars worth of donated toys shortly before Christmas.
The toys, which had been dropped off in a park facility by members of the Marine Corps, were to go to children signed up through the Toys for Tots program, according to reports. Prosecutors claimed that three bags of toys were removed and placed in a car. When another employee questioned what they were doing, the employee was told the toys were “extra.” A park district official observed the three removing the toys on surveillance video.
Foss Park district commissioner Susan Dixon and employees Mark Dixon and Tommie Kindle appeared in Lake county court for a bond hearing. Kindle’s attorney argued that he was following orders from Susan Dixon to move the toys to the car and did not know they were being stolen.
