Trine University Promotes Football Coach To New Position
Trine University has created a new position to oversee its athletics program and has given the job to longtime head football coach, Matt Land, who also served as athletic director of the university for the past three years.
Under his new title as assistant vice president of athletics, Land will team with other campus officers to coordinate all aspects of the athletics program including recruitment and retention, fundraising, development and leadership.
Troy Abbs, who served as assistant football coach and defensive coordinator under Lands since 2006, has been named head coach of the football team.
Trine has seen rapid growth in both enrollment and student-athletes in recent years, resulting in the need to expand and enhance facilities to ensure the best experience for its students academically and athletically.
“I’m excited about the new position and new challenges as I manage our rapidly growing athletics program with more than 600 student-athletes,” said Land. “My priority is ensuring a quality program and experience.”
