Library news and events this week:
During the winter months when cold weather limits outdoor activities, the library offers a variety of programs to keep you active and involved throughout the winter.
R.E.A.D Book Club
This book club meets at 5:30 p.m. the third Monday of every month. Each month participants read a book that has been selected from the Indiana Humanities Organization and then get together to discuss it while enjoying light refreshments. The books selected come from a variety of genres, authors, literary styles and topics. It’s interesting to hear everyone’s opinion and thoughts. Stop by the front desk to pick up next month’s book “Dear Mrs. Lindbergh” by Kathleen Hughes and join in the discussion.
Voyager Book Club
At 10 a.m. the fourth Monday of every month, Voyager book club meets with a different twist. Each month focuses on a different genre and participants are free to choose any book they want within that category. We then meet to share the books each of us has read. It’s fun to learn about all the different books everyone has chosen, and it’s a good way to uncover new books you may not have discovered on your own. Voyager Book Club will meet at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26 to discuss poetry books.
Writer’s Corner
Writer’s Corner meets at 10 a.m. the third Monday each month. Each month participants are assigned a topic to write about and then share their writings with one another. You don’t have to be an accomplished author to participate, just someone who likes to write or wants to learn how. We don’t critique grammar or spelling, but encourage each other in expressing ideas in writing. In February, we will be sharing our writings about a do over occupation.
Revolving Recipe Round Up
Foodies will love Revolving Recipe Round-Up that meets monthly at 5:30 p.m. the fourth Tuesday. Each month focuses on a specific kind of food, and everyone prepares a dish to sample and brings along the recipe to share. It’s a good time of food and fellowship while exploring delicious new recipes. On Tuesday, Jan. 27, we will share food made in a crock pot. The library provides the table service for sampling along with free coffee and bottled water.
Make and Take Card Class
Creative types will enjoy the Make & Take Card Class that meets at 10:30 a.m. the first Thursday of each month. Instructors Jan Biehl and Hope Beezley teach the various techniques for custom making your own greeting cards. Pre-registration is required each month along with a $7 class fee that includes all materials. To register, sign up at the front desk or call (574) 834-7122.
Glean Team
Genealogy buffs can connect with other genealogists during Glean Team that meets at 10 a.m. the first three Wednesdays of the month. This group helps each other in their research, shares resources, and works on local history projects. Field trips are occasionally taken to nearby research libraries, cemeteries and places of interest.
Weight Loss Support Group
Trying to lose weight? The library sponsors a free weekly weight loss support group that meets at 5:30 p.m. every Monday for support, encouragement, walking exercise, and educational programs on nutrition, fitness, health issues, and other related topics.
In addition to our regular adult programs, special events and activities are planned each month. Stop by the library for a calendar of events. Information is also available on our website at www.nweb.lib.in.us and on our Facebook page.
