Goldie B. Pilcher
Goldie B. Pilcher, 102, a Syracuse resident since 1947, passed away on Jan. 16, 2015, at Tender Care Center in Goshen. She was born on June 20, 1912 to John and Rose Parkhurst in Brewster, Neb.
Goldie married Douglas G. Pilcher in Denver, Colo. on July 20, 1941. Goldie taught at various elementary schools for 23 years and received a Masters Degree in Education from St. Francis College, Fort Wayne.
After teaching, she worked alongside her husband in the family business in Syracuse, Pilcher’s Shoe Store, until Douglas’ death in 1980. Then she continued working with her son at Pilcher’s Shoes in North Webster until her retirement at the age of 95.
Goldie was active within her church and had many hobbies including gardening, bowling, and bingo.
Surviving are three daughters, Janice (Thomas) Perzanowski, Merritt Island, Fla; Linda (James) Wortinger, Sebring, Fla; Patti (Stanley) Klotz, Bremen; a son, Robert (Dianne) Pilcher, Leesburg; 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Ratliff, 100 years old, and Helen Hennig, 94 years old.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, and three brothers (two in infancy).
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20 at the Eastlund Funeral Home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21 at the funeral home with Pastor Randy Stewart officiating.
Burial will follow at the Syracuse Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that Bible donations be made in Memory of Goldie Pilcher to Gideon International.
