Harrison Students Learn The WHS Engineering Design Model
Sixth graders at Harrison have been exploring bridges for their STEM project in January. Students are studying the vocabulary, designs, and theories used in the construction of famous bridges around the world using the WCS Engineering Design Model: Ask, Explore, Model, Evaluate, and Explain. Students will apply their learning by designing and building a bridge using only toothpicks and glue.
The objective is to design a bridge that can support the most weight. Students will also learn about the career paths of Architecture, Civil Engineering, and Construction.
Harrison Elementary Principal Lee Snider says, “Students are excited and engaged in this project. They had a great deal of pride and energy when they shared about their bridge and were knowledgeable about how they constructed it and why. It’s great to see students so engaged in STEM activities.”
