UPDATE: Accident West Old Road 30 In Atwood
Fred D. Wolford, 89, East Old Road 30, Warsaw, was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital after being involved in not one, but two accidents early Tuesday morning.
Police were initially called at 4:17 a.m. of an accident at the entrance to Westhaven Estates. Officers arrived to find Wolford suffering minor bleeding to the head. He told police he attempted to leave the mobile home park, next to the main office, when his dog jumped on his lap distracting him. Wolford said he went to move his dog to the passenger seat, letting go of the steering wheel and taking his eyes off the roadway.
His vehicle went off the road and came into contact with a utility pole. However the officer found the vehicle had more damage than what that collision caused.
Officers searched the area for potential vehicles which could have been damaged prior to the original accident. A parked Jeep, registered to Alison M. Ousley, Wooster Road, Winona Lake, was located several residences down from the driver’s home, with damage matching what officers found on Wolford’s vehicle.
Wolford was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital for evaluation.
Damage from the first accident was estimated up to $5,000, with damage estimated up to $10,000 following the second accident.
