The Kosciusko County Community Foundation has provided a grant for $1,000 to the Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry 2014 Meat Donation Program. This grant is being used to pay all processing fees for donated meat in Kosciusko County, which is then distributed to area hunger relief agencies.
It is hard to believe that in a country as resourceful and wealthy as ours, one in four households that have children within Indiana report an inability to be able to afford enough food to feed their family. According to Feeding Indiana’s Hungry, over 30 percent of all Hoosiers regularly have to choose between buying food and paying bills.
Protein is the number one nutrient that is fundamental for brain and body development, sadly, it is also the hardest commodity for the food bank to obtain. Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry encourages hunters and farmers to donate large game and livestock to one of their participating butchers to be processed, picked up by local hunger relief agencies, and distributed within the community in which it was donated and where funding is available.
Five Oaks Deer Processing in Syracuse received and processed all of the venison for this grant. This will provide almost 3,000 meals to Kosciusko County residents in need.
