Speeding Driver Believes He’s ‘Exempt’ From Being Stopped
Jaimi Luke Smith, 34, of Lafayette, was arrested yesterday after Indiana State Police caught him driving 100 mph in a 55 mph zone.
A state trooper was northbound on SR 37 in Bloomington when Smith passed him doing 100 mph. The trooper stopped the car and spoke to Smith, who said he was “exempt from being stopped by law enforcement” and drove off.
The trooper pursued Smith’s vehicle, which turned several times and eventually stopped with Smith exiting the car and fleeing on foot. He was spotted hiding behind a nearby house and taken into custody after resisting arrest.
Smith faces multiple charges, including resisting law enforcement, reckless driving and operating while intoxicated.
