Indiana Likely To Have Most Meth Labs Seized In 2014
According to new drug numbers from Indiana State Police, Indiana will likely have the most meth lab seizures in the country for 2014.
ISP reports that troopers busted more than 1,400 meth labs last year, which is actually a 17 percent decrease from 2013. However, other states around the country are seeing 30 to 40 percent drops.
Having said that, ISP states that the decrease is due in part to meth addicts finding the drug in different ways. Instead of making it themselves, a stronger meth has started making its way across the border from Mexican drug cartels.
“I think what we’re going to see over the next couple of years, we’re just going to ride a little bit of a roller coaster… when the availability of Mexican meth in some of these towns and cities is high, our meth labs are going to be low. But when the availability is low, our meth labs are going to go back up,” said Niki Crawford, ISP meth suppression section commander.
Another trend ISP has discovered in the statistics from 2014 was the movement of meth from rural areas to bigger cities.
Crawford encourages anyone with information on a potential meth lab to report it to their local law enforcement agency.
