Lady Warriors End Slide
SYRACUSE – Wawasee jumped out a big lead and had to sweat it out late, but defeated Concord, 41-36, Saturday afternoon in girls buckets at the Hardwood Teepee.
Wawasee used a 13-4 second quarter advantage to build a 25-11 lead at the break. Concord responded with a 15-7 third quarter to cut the lead to six entering the final eight minutes. The Lady Warriors sealed the win by hitting six-of-10 free throw attempts in the final frame.
Leading the charge for the Lady Warriors was Kylee Rostochak, who broke out for 20 points to lead all scorers. Seaquinn Bright added nine points for Wawasee.
Concord’s MacKenzie Rutter finished with 14 points.
Concord shot itself in the foot from the free throw line in the fourth quarter, making only half of its 12 attempts. For the game, Concord was 14-of-21 from the line while Wawasee made 14-of-19 attempts from the stripe.
The win snapped Wawasee’s 10-game losing streak in the Northern Lakes Conference and a seven-game skid overall. Wawasee moves to 5-14 overall and 1-5 in the NLC with a game at Bremen Tuesday night. Concord falls to 7-13 overall and 0-6 in the NLC, a date at South Bend Adams also on tap Tuesday night.
The junior varsity contest went to Wawasee in a 39-18 final.
