Wawasee Students Earn Medals At Goshen
Several Wawasee Community School Corp. string orchestra students participated in the Indiana State School Music Association’s district solo and ensemble contest Saturday at Goshen Middle School.
From Milford Middle School, eighth-grader Gabrielle Fiscus received a silver medal for her violin solo. Receiving gold medals for their violin solos were sixth-grader Emma Berger and eighth-graders Kaitlin Graber and Mercedes Winkelman. And the sixth-grade violin sextet of Claire Beer, Berger, Amanda Jenkins, Samantha Kolberg, Erin McGreevy and Kiaundra Olson received gold medals.
Participating from the Wawasee Middle School orchestra were sixth-graders Tess Helfers and Georgia Wise, who each received gold medals for their violin solos. Also receiving gold medals were eighth-grade students Lizzie Perry for a violin solo and Evan Wolferman performing a cello solo. An ensemble made up of seventh-grade violinists Cassidy Cannon, Kasey Gunkel, Sydney Jaggers and violist Robert Sopher also scored a gold medal.
From Wawasee High School, senior violin soloist Ashley Larson received a gold medal, as well as an ensemble made up of sophomore violinists Krislynn Lancaster, Jessica O’Donnell, Elizabeth Zorn, sophomore violist Sophia Miller and senior violinists Carly Erst and Larson.
Junior Grace Ondrla and Erst entered violin solos in Division I, the highest level of competition. They both received gold medals and qualified to advance to the state level of competition Saturday, Feb. 28, in Indianapolis.
