Syracuse Shooting Suspect Now In Custody
Brandon Thomas Woody, 22, 605 W. North St., Syracuse, was taken into custody by law enforcement officials this afternoon, according to Syracuse Police Chief Tony Ciriello. Woody is a suspect allegedly involved in the double shooting incident and murder this morning in Syracuse.
Woody currently has two additional preliminary warrants for his arrest, which were issued: murder and attempted murder. Currently, no bond has been set on either charge.
Ciriello stated more information relating to the apprehension will be released at a later time.
The Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office advises that the defendant’s charge is merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Affidavit Of Probable Cause
The Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s office has released the affidavit of probable cause providing some information as to what occurred early this morning.
According to the court document, Tara Thornburg called 911 stating she needed help at her residence. She advised Woody shot her boyfriend in the head and knocked her out. She stated she was injured and needed help. Contact with Thornburg was then lost by the 911 operator.
Syracuse Police Officer Joe Denton arrived at the scene and found Thornburg conscious in the downstairs living room on the floor. She had suffered a gun shot wound to the head, a laceration under the left eye, in a pool of blood. Thornburg, when asked, told Denton twice that Brandon Woody had shot her. She was airlifted to Fort Wayne Lutheran Hospital.
A protective sweep of the residence by Denton found Joshua R. Knisley in an upstairs bedroom, deceased with a gunshot wound to the head. Police found three unspent 9 mm Winchester Luger handgun cartridges on the floor and in the bed found one spent 9 mm Winchester Luger handgun cartridge.
Fort Wayne City Police Officer Steve Buffenbarger spoke with a Dr. Reed, who treated Thornburg. Reed stated the bullet entered through Thornburg’s mouth and went through the C1 vertebrae. It is believed the weapon was placed inside her mouth when she was shot.
