WCHS FFA Enjoying Continued Success
The Warsaw Community High School FFA chapter has 72 members this year.
Advisor is Lynnette Markley. She is in her 19th year at Warsaw, and she has taught agriculture for the past 20 years.
“Our chapter has been actively involved in a lot of community service projects this past year,” said Markley.
Warsaw FFA has assisted with the Tom Farms’ Customer Appreciation Supper, volunteered at the Magical Meadows Horse Show, Feed My Starving Children, Family Fun Night at Lucerne Park, and adopted a family at Christmas.
FFA also been involved in the fall and winter career development events, consisting of crops, forestry and dairy foods judging. It is currently starting practices for a chapter meeting contest, welding, leadership, and poultry evaluation. Members have also been diligently working on their proficiency awards applications and state degrees.
Warsaw FFA also hosted its annual community appreciation supper and member worker experience in November. Markley said, “We had just under 300 community members attend this event. This event and our citrus fruit fundraiser allows us to attend national and state FFA conventions, participate in career development events, and fund all our other projects for a year.”
In August, Warsaw FFA implemented an awards program. Therefore, to kickoff National FFA Week, those members who met the qualifications, attended the National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville, Ky., Feb. 13.
“Our FFA week is actually running the week of Feb. 22-27,” said Markley. “FFA members will be participating in carry-in lunches Tuesday and Thursday. We will be hosting ‘Go All Out’ fun activities Wednesday. Members will be able to participate in Guitar Hero, euchre tournament, board games, corn hole and many other activities. We will also be having Subway sandwiches and an ice cream sundae bar for our members.”
Warsaw FFA will host its annual staff appreciation breakfast. FFA members will arrive early in the morning to begin cooking breakfast for staff and administrators. “We usually feed around 120 teachers, staff support and administrators,” said Markley. “FFA will also feed all the agriculture classes a healthy breakfast and inform our students where their food comes from. We will also be having a state officer do a chapter visit throughout the week.”
Officers are: President Sydney Susaraba, Vice President Coltin Brumfield, Secretary Karlie Dees, Treasurer Cole Troutner, Reporter Kole Komdeur, and Sentinel Bryan Thompson; student advisor is Dakota Koontz. Warsaw FFA currently has a state officer, Lindsey O’Hara, from its chapter serving as the northern region vice president.
