When it’s snowing and blowing outside it’s hard to imagine that spring will be here soon, but it will arrive before you know it and now is the time to start planning your spring garden. Purdue Extension educator Kelly Heckaman will be at the library at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, to teach us how to grow plants from seeds in preparation for spring planting. Starting your own plants from seeds is less expensive than buying starts, provides more variety to choose from, and gives you the satisfaction of growing your own plants from seed to harvest. This program is free and open to the public, so bring along your gardening buddies and get ready for spring planting.
It’s also time to get ready for the 2015 Cemetery Walk by participating in the essay Contest going on throughout March. This is your chance to commemorate someone from the past who is buried in the North Webster Cemetery. Write a short essay, giving a brief history of the person’s life, and submit it to Local History and Genealogy Center Director Beth Smith by Tuesday, March 31. The persons written about in the winning essays will be portrayed during the walk held Sunday, Sept. 13. Winners will be announced at the National Library Celebration at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 16.
There are still openings available in the eight week T’ai Chi class that starts from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, and will be held every Wednesday through April 22. Teens in sixth grade through high school can catch a free flick at Teen Movie Time at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 5.
