Wawasee Graduation Rate Improves
Indiana Department of Education released 2014 high school graduation rate information Wednesday afternoon. Statewide the average was at 89.8 percent, up from 88.6 percent the year before.
IDOE reported Wawasee High School showed 163 graduates out of a cohort count of 184, a rate of 88.6 percent. That is an improvement compared to the 85.6 percent of 2013.
But it still fell short of the 90 percent graduation rate goal the school has, said principal Mike Schmidt. He noted, though, the 88.6 percent rate is being contested. “The rate of 88.6 is correct as of now,” he said. “We are still contesting three other students who should be counted for us, but I am not going to count on an answer anytime soon regarding those three students.”
If those three students are counted, it would improve Wawasee’s graduation rate to 90.2 percent. The school had a 91.7 rate in 2011.
