IHSAA Issues Statement On Lake County Situation
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana High School Athletic Association issued a statement Monday regarding the boys basketball situation in northwest Indiana involving Griffith and Hammond high schools and their involvement in the 2015 IHSAA boys basketball state tournament.
The IHSAA granted both schools, which initially faced a year-long suspension and banning from this year’s state tournament due to a brawl between the two schools earlier this season, admission into the state tournament.
The IHSAA statement reads: “Pursuant to the preliminary injunction granted today in Lake County court, Sectional #17 of the IHSAA boys basketball tournament will begin on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at 7 p.m. CT. Sectional #17 shall contain seven schools and the pairings and times are listed below.”
Griffith and Lighthouse CPA will open the tournament Thursday with Hammond and Bowman Academy facing one another Friday. The championship game of Sectional #17 will take place Monday, March 9.
