Redskins Finish Fast To Top Central
ELKHART – A strong start and a fine finish carried Goshen past Elkhart Central 46-37 Tuesday night in sectional play.
The poised Redskins used a key 11-2 run in the final frame to top the Blue Blazers in a first-round game of the Class 4-A Central Sectional at North Side Gym.
Goshen (14-9) advances to play Northridge (12-9) in the second semifinal game Friday night. Defending champion Concord, which knocked off Warsaw 32-28 in Tuesday night’s first game, will play Elkhart Memorial in the first semifinal at 6 p.m. Friday.
The sectional title game is set for Saturday at 7:30 p.m. with the winner advancing to the Michigan City Regional on March 14.
Goshen trailed 30-29 early in the fourth period before taking control. The Redskins outscored Central 17-9 in the final stanza.
The Redskins led 14-7 after the first quarter and 21-20 at halftime. Goshen was up just 29-28 heading into the final period.
Brady Bechtel led the winners with 14 points. Jack Gingerich scored 12 and Austin Woolett had 10.
Goshen hit 6-13 from distance in the win, including 3-5 by Gingerich.
Langston Johnson netted 14 points and Treyton Harris 12 to lead Central. Johnson hit 4-7 from deep for the Blue Blazers, who finish at 5-17.
