Headstones To Be Placed On 58 Unmarked Graves In Plainfield
A dedication will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 7, for 58 new headstones placed on graves in Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield, IN. The markers will honor babies that died before birth or during infancy as far back as 1957.
A local ministry, He Knows Your Name, spearheaded the effort. Linda Znachko, founder, believes it is important to properly recognize, identify and honor these babies whose graves have been left unmarked for decades.
“It feels permanent and it feels like we’re marking the earth with the fact that these lives were in fact lived,” said Znachko. “They had a purpose even if they lived a few hours or really didn’t ever take a breath this side of the womb. They are still significant members of families and they need to be remembered.”
Thomas Monument provided all 58 headstones and Dammann’s Lawn & Garden will place greens on each plot for the dedication. Znachko hopes those who attend and visit the graves will remember to honor life because it is precious.
The ceremony will be open to anyone who wishes to attend.
