New South Shore Express Train Starts Next Week
The South Shore railroad line will debut a new express train from South Bend to Chicago beginning March 16, with a goal of getting passengers to the windy city in approximately 90 minutes.
The ‘Sunrise’ express train will depart South Bend at 6 a.m. (Eastern time zone) and make only two stops along the way, at Dune Park and East Chicago, reducing the trip by more than half an hour. The service is expected to be especially attractive to area residents needing to make business trips to Chicago.
There will also be an eastbound return express train that will depart Chicago at 3:57 p.m. (Central time zone) making limited stops on its way to South Bend, albeit a few more than going westbound.
Eventually, the South Shore also wants to realign the station at South Bend airport to help shorten the trip out of town toward Michigan City, as well.
